Help us honor Jerry Lohr through $80 for 80.
Since the day he arrived on the South Dakota State campus in 1954, Jerry Lohr has cast a large shadow across the university. Initially, it might have been the 6-foot-5 frame of the lanky farm kid from Raymond, S.D.
The 1958 graduate has become one of the most-generous and influential benefactors in SDSU’s history. One of only three individuals in the Charles L. Coughlin Society for gifts in excess of $10 million, Lohr has also traveled the country and made monthly trips back to Brookings from his home and business in California for SDSU projects for the past three decades. The combination of his commitment of time and money puts Jerry in a class by himself.
He served as chair of both of SDSU's comprehensive campaigns. He is currently the single-largest provider of scholarships to SDSU, supporting almost $100,000 in scholarships every year. Lohr has been the driving force behind a growing “culture of giving” at SDSU that has led to unprecedented levels of private support.
We can think of no better way to honor Jerry and celebrate that milestone than to encourage gifts to his alma mater. Through $80 for 80, we are encouraging friends, colleagues, and admirers of Jerry Lohr to make a gift of $80 (or more) to SDSU as a sign of appreciation for the transformative effect he has had on SDSU.
For all he’s done, $80 is the least we can do. $80 for 80 is an opportunity for all of us to show our gratitude for what Jerry Lohr has meant to SDSU – and to wish him the best on his birthday.
